Lifting the Veil, New Mexico Women and the Tricultural Myth image portraying the event Opening Date: March 2, 2007 Closing Date: May 28, 2007 Admission: $0.00 Description: Women artists of New Mexico address issues and concerns about power and exclusion and the perpetuation of the tricultural myth. This myth, that New Mexico is made up of three cultural groups: Native American, Hispanic and Anglo, imposes categories of racial separation that deny complex identities and family histories. Conversely, women embrace the fabric of interrelationships between families and communities. Through their work, these artists challenge the prevailing mystique, revealing present-day realities about the multicultural mix of New Mexico.
